About Our Trees

Objective:

Produce a tree with fibrous, well-branched root system, which results in a strong, free-standing tree with excellent caliber.

Strong Start:

Strong Start:

Plants are started in an air root prune environment using Rootmaker® propagation containers that create a fibrous root system with no circling while encouraging both vertical and horizontal branching. Rootmaker® propagation containers direct root tips toward one of many openings on the sides and base of the container. As the tip dehydrates secondary roots are produced and so on.

Next Stage:

Next Stage:

The trees are then moved to 5”, 8” and 10” knit fabric in ground or 5 and 7 gallon above ground Rootmaker® containers. Both of these methods continue to create a very fibrous well branched root system.

The nursery offers the above material for liner stock or for small retail trees, while some of this material will be retained on site to produce larger caliper 2-3” finished trees in 15-18” in ground knit fabric containers and larger Rootmaker® above ground containers.

Benefits of our root development:

·        Increased flexibility in transplanting vs. bareroot

·        Avoidance of cold storage problems vs. bareroot

·        Lighter in weight vs. B&B

·        Roots not shocked/wounded at harvest vs. B&B/bareroot

·        Reduced root circling vs. solid-sided containers

·        Root benefits accomplished without using copper-treated pots

·        Creates a highly branched fibrous root system.

·        Stem taper, strength and diameter well developed vs. other   methods

·        Produces a more natural tree growth and branching vs. other methods

·        Tree activity flourishes the first year after transplanting vs. spending energy heeling roots.

Final Product:

Final Product:
The final product is a very fibrous root system, which translates to a greater absorption of water and nutrients, delivering a more vigorous growth rate at transplanting. Establishment is quicker and results in a better thriving product with a greater survival rate.
Our company is committed to the Rootmaker® process. We believe the plant material produced offers a better alternative to B&B, bareroot, solid wall containers, and copper circling prevention.
